DURA ADURA
ABOUT THE BOOK
Dura Adura is a compilation of selected pieces of random
reactions of eminent journalist Sri Subhas Chandra
Pattanayak published in the flagship periodical of our group
‘Pratishruti’ under his column ‘Akasmika Pratikriya’ spanning
a decade from 1995 to 2005.
The articles deal extensively with administrative aberrations
afflicting our nation after the right-wingers stilled our national
resolve for building up India into a socialist State.
Each one of the articles is unique with patriotism sic passim in
every analysis he has made of every landmark event of the
period.
From Prime Minister of the Country to a Minister of his State,
from the Chief Election Commissioner of India to the Chief
Secretary of his State, from the Supreme Court of India to the
Lower Court in his State, from the Parliament of India to his
State Legislature, from Industrialists to Slum Leaders, from
religious fundamentalists to pseudo secularists, from
Educationists to Education Traders, from Politicians to the Press, every
phenomenon that he has found to have wronged our people, Pattanayak
has dived deep into the matter and used his matchless ability of using
appropriate words to expose the mischief.
Media in general has covered the events that attracted attention during the
period covered by this book; but this book has dealt with matters that had
never been covered by any. In a sense, without reading this book, history of
the period cannot be correctly understood.
Read it and know it.

Publications.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
If fearless reporting within the parameter of civil expression is a world by it-
self, Sri Subhas Chandra Pattanayak, author of the articles compiled into
this book, is an icon.
In Orissa, in the circle of people who watch or run administration, he is
feared by some, admired by many but regarded by all as a journalist
heartlessly incisive but passionately committed to the cause of the
commons.
Victimized during Emergency because of his single-handed active
resistance to curtailment of Press Freedom, he has acquired expertise in
Industrial adjudication and has been contributing his might to protect
working journalists from exploitation by news media establishments.
Formerly a special invitee to the National Executive of National Union of
Journalists (India) Sri Pattanayak was Secretary of Orissa Union of
Journalists before being the Founder Secretary of the Forum of Freelance
Journalists. Now in online journalism, he is working as Representative-in-
Chief of orissamatters.com and in this capacity, he has earned the rare
distinction of being the first officially accredited online journalist in India.
A man of letters, his contribution to Oriya literature is being projected in
saubhasya.com.
